Paper Description
This paper will critically examine the teaching and learning of te reo me ngā tikanga (Māori language and customs) in bilingual educational contexts. Students will explore the implications for planning and implementation of aspects Māori in these learning contexts.
There will also be a particular emphasis on extending student's understanding and proficiency with second language teaching methodology for learning and teaching of te reo me ngā tikanga in the classroom.

- A Māori worldview is unique and has relevance in our New Zealand primary school context.
- Learning and teaching te reo Māori in primary schools is affected by a range of educational issues.

There are three assignments for this paper. Assignment three requires regular on-line engagement.

The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 100:0. There is no final exam.

This paper has a credit value of 20 points. It is expected that you will complete a minimum of 200 hours of study to successfully obtain a passing grade for this paper. You will be expected to contribute to a minimum of 48 hours of scheduled tutorials, three hours for an on-campus session, and the remainder as personal study and preparation time to complete assessment tasks and readings.
